Three local politicians have welcomed plans to virtually upgrade Dunoon’s shop fronts on the Google Street View platform which is part of the Google Maps service.

Using photos taken by Argyll and Bute’s sole Google Trusted Photographer, Dunoon’s streets will be given a virtual makeover, to match the current improvements that have taken place to local shopfronts as a result of Argyll and Bute Council’s Conservation Area Regeneration Scheme (CARS).

Users of the Google service will also be able to explore the inside of various local premises.

Highlands and Islands MSP Donald Cameron said: “People use Google Street View every day to get an idea of the layout of local places, so it is only right that after significant investment in the town centre by Argyll and Bute Council, the upgraded shopfronts are up to date online too.”

Dunoon Councillor Bobby Good said: “Local businesses in Dunoon take immense pride in keeping their premises up to scratch, and I am delighted that improvements are not only being made in the real world, but also in the virtual world too.”

Policy Lead for Economic Growth, Cllr Alastair Redman said: “The CARS scheme has allowed many businesses from across the whole of Argyll and Bute to benefit from local authority investment. The fact that Google are now reflecting those upgrades on its own online platforms can only be a good thing for local communities like Dunoon.”
