The plight of a school student from the Western Isles who received worse than expected grades from the SQA was raised with Education Secretary John Swinney earlier today in the Scottish Parliament by local MSP Donald Cameron in a debate about the fall-out from the grading fiasco.
Benbecula student, Eva Peteranna, who despite being predicted to receive AAABC at Higher, was in fact was given BBBDF, gained widespread sympathy after revealing her disappointment and frustration on social media.
Mr Cameron, a Highlands and Islands MSP, said: “Eva’s situation reminds us of the tremendous and unnecessary upset that this shambles has caused for so many of our young people.
“While I am pleased that, at long last, Eva and many others, should receive an acceptable result, this fiasco has raised very serious doubts about the competence and judgment of ministers, particularly John Swinney.
“Going forward, as we navigate our way out of this mess, we will need a minister in whom students, parents, and the teaching profession, can have confidence.
“I’m afraid, after all that has happened with Scottish education, that person can no longer be John Swinney.”
