Highlands and Islands MSP Donald Cameron has welcomed a commitment by the UK Government to maintain the highest food and animal welfare standards in any future trade deals.
The Scottish Conservative MSP said the announcement from International Trade Secretary Liz Truss of a Trade and Agricultural Commission was good news for the agriculture sector in the Highlands and Islands.
“Farmers and crofters across my region produce food of the highest quality and will be reassured by the UK Government’s commitment to maintaining standards.
“I am also very pleased at the emphasis being placed by Liz Truss on the importance of small and medium-sized producers which are the backbone of the industry here.
“I hope that the Scottish Government will, like NFU Scotland and other partners, now play its part in supporting the industry move forward.”
