It was good to be back in Port Ellen to catch up with my constituents.
I had the opportunity to check up on the condition of local road repairs, pavement conditions and the many broken street lights. I have contacted our roads department about the potholes across Port Ellen including in North Bay and Mansfield Road.
The shocking condition of some of Port Ellen's street lights particularly in Cnoc-Na-Faire are a real concern. There are numerous instances of missing access panels exposing the electric wiring of the streetlights. This is a real safety concern, particularly as the exposed panels are within easy reaching distance of children.
Some local pavements are also overgrown and are in desperate need of treatment. As I have said before while it was understandable that certain works were on the back burner during the height of the coronavirus pandemic, now that things are starting to return to normal long overdue maintenance and repairs must now be addressed.
