First Milk has announced its intention to close Campbeltown Creamery, putting 14 jobs at risk. The Creamery was put up for sale in April 2018 when First Milk announced that it was not core to its business strategy for the future.
The company said that despite significant effort over the last 18 months, it has not been possible to conclude the sale of the creamery.
Highlands and Islands MSP Donald Cameron said:
“This is bitterly disappointing news and a blow to the local economy.
“When I met with the management and staff we were hopeful about the future of the creamery.
“And the fantastic response from the public through the crowd-funding campaign showed just how important the creamery is to people here.
“There is now an overwhelming case for the Scottish Government and its agencies to help address the economic challenges facing Kinytre, and I will be working closely with all interested parties to ensure they receive the necessary support.”
