I was happy to attend the latest MAKI Area Committee meeting on the Isle of Gigha recently.
I had the opportunity to hear from my constituents on Gigha about so many pressing local concerns, many of which I had heard before at my numerous surgeries on Gigha. These included the need for new housing to help keep Gigha's young on the island, concerns particularly from local businesses about the need for a faster and fit for purpose internet service, the importance of future proofing the local ferry service as the local economy continues to grow and the numerous education challenges facing Kintyre and our Islands where also discussed at length.
We had the opportunity to tour the fantastic Wee Isle Dairy, a family-owned and run business that is now distributing milk and ice cream to several dozen shops and hotels across Argyll, as well as to outlets in Edinburgh and Crieff. Having spoken to this dairy's management and it's employees on numerous occasions I have to stress once again just how ridiculous it is that this terrific local dairy is not allowed to sell their milk to their island's own Primary School. It's high time this nonsense was resolved.
I will continue to campaign to make sure all these matters and more on Gigha and across my council ward are addressed.
