It's been nearly a month since myself and many of my constituents raised serious concerns about the broken street lighting In Port Ellen, Port Charlotte and Port Wemyss.
Despite a continuous stream of complains and safety concerns being brought to the attention of our Council, whole streets on Islay are still without lighting.
This is frankly embarrassing that we as a Council are seemingly unable to provide a basic level of service with our local lights being left off for weeks on end.
In Port Charlotte many of the lights have been out since long before before I was elected and this is unacceptable. Our Island communities must not be treated with disregard. Many of my constituents have asked me the same question over and over again "Why do we pay our council tax if they won't even fix our street lights?" This is in my opinion is a fair question and I share their anger on this matter.
I implore the management of the roads department not to ignore this problem and put our lights back on without delay.
