Jamie McGrigor, Highlands & Islands Conservative MSP, has received answers to the written Parliamentary questions he tabled on the subject of the local economy in Dunoon following the recent jobs blow caused by Stewart McNee (Dunoon) Ltd going into administration. Business Minister Fergus Ewing has said he understands that only three of the 60 former McNee employees are still seeking work and states that tackling economic challenges in Argyll & Bute is a key priority for HIE. Communities Secretary Alex Neil has also set out the Scottish Government’s approach to supporting town centre retailers. Commenting today Jamie McGrigor MSP said: “ It is encouraging news that most former McNee employees have found other jobs. “ I am very clear that boosting economic development in Dunoon and Cowal- and indeed across Argyll & Bute- is critical in terms of seeking to reverse the area’s projected population decline and I am keen to speak up about this wherever possible. “ There is a lot of good work going on in Dunoon, for example at the Burgh Hall, and we need to build on this and attract new business to the area.”
