While attending the latest Environmental, Development and Infrastructure Committee meeting I was able to raise many important and pressing local matters. These included the need to link infrastructure spending and resources to the heavy freight that travels on our roads network. We have received additional funds from central government due to logging freight on our roads so it is my firm believe that the same additional funding should come from central government to offset the infrastructure strain caused by the fantastic industrial growth of our distilleries.
I raised concerns about the condition of numerous cemeteries in my ward including in Carradale and on Islay. Sadly in some cases we have challenges with flooding and in others there are problems with rabbit and hare infestations. While there are always challenges related to our budget being constantly cut by the Scottish Government, we must not leave any of our cemeteries in a state of disrepair.
On the matter of housing and homelessness numbers in Argyll and Bute I stressed the need to make sure that none of our military veterans are without housing.
On all these matters and so much more I will keep pressing hard for long term solutions.
