I have been out and about across Islay speaking to my constituents and listening to their concerns. While our crumbling road infrastructure is brought up time and time again the most mentioned issue by far is the poor condition of Islay High School. Many parents are justifiably demanding greater investment in our Island's High School.
Unfortunately the building has deteriorated quite a lot over the past few years. There is fungi growing on some walls, the roof is leaking with many tiles missing, holes in walls and a failing heating system. There are also concerns that the school canteen is not big enough and the toilets facilities are not good enough.
I share my constituents concerns on this pressing matter and I have been in contact with our hardworking policy lead for education Yvonne McNeilly about what can be done to get much needed investment for Islay High School against the backdrop of Argyll and Bute council's block grant being reduced by the Scottish Government.
It is my hope that resources can be found to improve the poor condition of Islay High School.
