Highlands and Islands MSP Donald Cameron has said that the frequency and duration of power cuts affecting island communities in Argyll is causing concern to local people.
Mr Cameron said: “People in Islay and Jura have had to cope with a number of power cuts recently and this apparent loss of reliability in supply is a real worry, on top of everything else that is happening at the moment.
“Usually neighbours would provide assistance to elderly or vulnerable people when this kind of thing occurs, but Covid-19 restrictions are making that very problematic.
“This really does need to be sorted out, and soon.”
Local Councillor, Alastair Redman, an Islay resident commented: “There have been so many outages recently that we are wondering when the next one is going to happen.
“I’m particularly concerned about folk who may have difficulty coping, who have found themselves plunged into darkness without any warning.
“In this day and age we simply should not be having to cope with these levels of disruption.”
