Highlands and Islands MSP Donald Cameron is backing a local councillor’s efforts to repair the surface of a road in Port Ellen, Islay.
Donald has joined Councillor Alastair Redman (Kintyre and the Islands Ward) in highlighting the crumbling condition of Mansefield Road, a residential street in the heart of Port Ellen, which they visited together earlier this week when Mr Cameron was holding surgeries on Islay.
Donald said: “The state of Mansefield Road is deplorable and it is not surprising that residents want something done about it.
“I visited Mansefield Road last year with Alastair and we called for action then, and it is very disappointing that we still have a significant problem with the condition of the road surface.
“I know that Alastair has been working hard on this issue and I hope that the Council will agree with him and me that the road should be prioritised for maintenance work.”
Councillor Redman said: “I am delighted that Donald is supporting my efforts on behalf of local people who are understandably concerned about the potholes and deteriorating surface of the road.
“The uneven surface of the road could cause accidents to pedestrians and damage to vehicles attempting to negotiate their way through the potholes.
“Donald and I have been in contact with the Roads Department and am hopeful that we will soon see some progress.”
