The SNP is consulting on ending the council tax reduction for single occupants.

Council tax is already a progressive system, and those with low incomes rightly receive discounts. It is ridiculous to suggest single occupancy use as much water as a fully occupied house.

This is nothing more than an attempt to increase taxes by stealth, and it will hit some of the most vulnerable people in our society particularly elderly people living alone. This is a huge mistake from an SNP obsessed with the constitution.

I am happy that we in the Scottish Conservative and Unionist party will oppose this move. This once again demonstrates that as the SNP continue to take their eye off the day job.

The only party that will stand up for hard-pressed people across Scotland is the Scottish Conservatives.
