Universal Credit, the new benefit designed to streamline the benefit process has come under criticism about the way it is being introduced, and the impact this is having on recipients.
Scottish Conservative MSP Annie Wells has voiced her concerns saying "Whilst I support the premise of Universal Credit, it is paramount that it is implemented in a way that sees nobody left behind.
“The most vulnerable in our society need to be reassured that their concerns over the impact of this roll-out, in its current form, will be listened to and that it will not affect their day to day lives. To not do so, runs the risk of failing those who the system set out to support."
Cllr Yvonne McNeilly praised Annie Wells MSP for having the courage to speak out against her own parties policy saying "Annie has quite rightly called out the flaws in the implementation of Universal credit. It is not the best bit of public policy ever devised and we need to be very very clear that we recognise these flaws and are doing all that we can to protect and support the most vulnerable in our society."
Expressing her support for the Glasgow MSP, Cllr McNeilly added "Well done Annie, 'Gaun yersel' hen"
